Viola Mountain Door Company

“The Viola Mountain Door Company” written and performed by Greg Abbott – developed at New Collective LA

As an artist, you are probably sick and tired of hearing the word “no”. Whether you’ve heard that word from someone in the industry, from relatives, friends, fellow artists, or maybe even from yourself – “no” is the worst of the dream killers. What sets New Collective LA apart from other Acting Studios in Los Angeles is our passion for helping artists say “yes” and bring their creative ideas alive. Many times actors don’t believe that their own ideas have any validity – the idea starts as a flash, or a spark – and “no” snuffs it out before it can catch fire. We have helped many actors take that spark and bring their ideas to completion. Included in this post are some examples of the talented artists who have taken their creative projects to the next level.

It has always been our mission to provide actors with an empowering, creative environment. New Collective LA is so much more than just an acting studio – we are also a nurturing, supportive organization that gives actors the tools to bring the spark of their idea to life.

How can the actor use our program to develop their own material? The answer is, we can help you decide based on our unique offerings – for instance, The Actor’s Journey is a class that can be used to develop a character and explore your material. Through exercises and improvisations, you can explore different aspects of your character as well as imaginary circumstances as a way to develop your material. You can also work on sections of your piece and get non-directorial feedback from the instructor. In Actor’s Gym or On Camera Audition you can work on sections of material that you are developing for your piece and see your work on camera if you so desire. Our program puts the focus on the artistic process – we give artists the space to explore their instincts and their impulses and provide balanced, non-directorial support. Instructor and founding member Greg Braun has directed several productions at New Collective LA and has helped guide countless artists in their creative process. We will help you design your own program based on your artistic goals.

Since recently renovating our facility, the New Collective Theater has proudly hosted several original works and full length workshop productions throughout the year and is also a participating venue for the annual Hollywood Fringe Festival. Actors can use our program to design their own curriculum and work their original material. We also periodically offer a special workshop entitled No More Waiting taught by Tina Alexis Allen, which has helped many to develop their own solo works and bring them to the stage. Whether you want to create your own solo piece, mount your own showcase or produce and perform in your own full length workshop production, you can do it at New Collective LA.
